Protecting children from sexual abuse and other types of victimization requires a 360° approach. Prevent 360° is an initiative between education partners Darkness to Light and the Monique Burr Foundation for Children (MBF). The prevention education programs provided by Darkness to Light and the Monique Burr Foundation for Children are the gold standard in adult-focused and child-focused programs and work well together as part of a larger effort to protect youth using a 360° approach.
Prevent 360° encompasses a 5/5/5 framework. This framework provides 5 guidelines for organizations and communities to reduce stigma, influence behavior, and change social norms, 5 Steps for adults to prevent child sexual abuse, and 5 Safety Rules for youth to help adults keep them safe.
Provide Darkness to Light’s evidence-informed, award-winning Stewards of Children training to individuals and organizations within your community.
Provide MBF programs, including evidence-based MBF Child Safety Matters®, and evidence-informed MBF Teen Safety Matters® and MBF Athlete Safety Matters™ to all youth within your community.
Encourage and support research, increase community awareness, and enforce organizational policies and procedures to reduce risk and create safer environments for children.
Participate in advocacy efforts for stronger legislation to protect children. Take action to end demand, reduce victimization/perpetration, and to promote the healthy development of children.
Facilitate and participate in collaborative efforts within local, national, and global communities. Help ensure sustainable funding for prevention and response.
Prevent 360° encourages organizations to use both adult-focused and child-focused education to better protect children.
MBF Facilitators are encouraged to add the Darkness to Light Stewards of Children training to their programs and services. Stewards of Children is Darkness to Light’s flagship program. The training is evidence-informed, award-winning, and has taught over 1.7 million adults worldwide the 5 Steps to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is presented to organizations, school staff, parents, and other concerned community members by trained facilitators via a live 2-hour training. It is also available online. To learn more visit www.DarknesstoLight.org. If you are interested in becoming a Stewards of Children facilitator, email Stacy@mbfpreventioneducation.org.
If you are not currently an MBF Facilitator using MBF Prevention Education Programs, in addition to the above, we encourage you to learn more about our programs and combine them with Stewards of Children to better protect children. MBF’s 5 Safety Rules are taught during all programs to educate and empower children and teens to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to the four types of child abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, neglect), bullying, cyberbullying, and digital dangers. MBF Teen Safety Matters also covers healthy relationships/relationship abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking. The programs have been taught to 3 million students since 2010 and have substantial data to show their effectiveness. Learn more about our research here.
We know to truly protect children we cannot educate just adults OR children, we must educate both adults AND children.
If you would like to be a Prevent 360° organization, MBF and Darkness to Light are offering a 10% discount when you purchase both programs. To get started, please contact MBF Program Director Stacy Pendarvis at Info@mbfpreventioneducation.org or 904-562-1845.
